Yes, I think people realize that Prodigy took advantage of Y2K to close down a segment of their operation that they knew they should have closed down a long time ago. While it sucks for their Prodigy Classic customers, from a business perspective I can see their point. Some people will say they'll take their business elsewhere and that's their choice. Not much different than a bank who says they're going to discontinue a line of business rather than do a Year 2000 renovation. After all, isn't that part of the Year 2000 assessment process for every business; look at what it takes to get Y2K ready and then choose from the course of action options (including discontinue the line of business). It's not like they've collected fees that people have paid and are going to lose now. Most people use the online services to get to the WWW, anyhow. Prodigy should offer Prodigy Classic members a good deal to migrate to Prodigy Internet (maybe they are) as a gesture of good will and to retain customers. JMO.

I wasn't aware that Prodigy was still in business. If you'd asked me, I'd have said they folded their tents & fadded into the sunset years ago.

But I'd say this is probably the start of a LOT of businesses just closing their doors... simply too expensive to fix what they have.
