David, it is also a good excuse for companies to close up and blame it on Y2K rather than bad management.

Or it's weeding out of the weak and the strong will remain.

Look at ZDNET's little blurb about them:

Old online service scrapped, finally.

Excerpt:

Angry Usenet reaction Consumers posting to Usenet about the shutdown seemed angry, and questioned the future of the Internet service as well.

"The reality is they see no growth potential in Classic and needed some way to shut it down," wrote one poster in online-service.prodigy. "Prodigy is dead. The only question remaining is what date will be carved on the tombstone."

Y2K Poll:

cgi.zdnet.com

Poll Results (Feb.2/99 8:38) as it changes..

QuickPoll Results
To prepare personally for Y2K, I am most apt to:

Stockpile some food and water. 4912 (33%)
Move to a safe environment 272 (2%)
Work with my neighbors on a plan of action 737 (5%)
Do nothing; I'm not worried 9186 (61%)

Just poll results, that's it. But, it shows that the
doomsayer numbers are small.
