Thanks for the pointer to this subject Dow Beater. I have read through the messages and see that I have a lot in common with others here. I have used Trendsetter software (personal analyst and hotline) for about 5 years and finally swore it off last fall. I don't mind helping Jeff debug his software, but the program's instability is just unacceptable.

I am taking a break from the Dial Data feed, trying to see if I can just use various web resources for my needs. It seems that eventually, I shouldn't have to keep my own database but for now it is necessary for screening and developing strategies.

As for the realtime feeds, it looks to me as though online brokerages are going to be adding more realtime trading support for their "passionate" customers. I use Etrade and they offer several java applets that provide realtime quotes and more. Here is a link:

etrade.com

I haven't been able to try the application "The Pulse" that they offer because my internet connection is through a firewall. But at the link above, they say that it provides Level II quotes, streaming portfolios, news and charts.

I'd like to learn about how stable ProTA Gold is from you folks that are running it. I expect a program to *never* crash. Reasonable?

thanks,
dana
