Hey man, you're right. Forget about the emotion, which is hard, and look at the facts. The problem is that it's hard to know the facts. There is the story of what has occurred, this we all know. It's quite upsetting. Then, there are the fundamentals of the stock, which, other than large revenues and revenue growth, are a bit sketchy. The question is, is there a story behind the story. What is really going on here? Who was buying on Friday to support the price? Why were they buying? If we just look at the story, and that's all there is, then we're in for a bit of trouble tomorrow and for a long period of time, while all the companies are integrated. Capital sources will be a problem. I'm not saying it can't be done, but it will be long and difficult. It's one thing to build a company, it's another to run it. There is a lot of potential here, and I had been betting on management to realize it.

But I would like to know the story behind the story. I doubt we're going to find it out, though.

JBK

OSO

It's clear to see why you value honesty and straightforwardness in others.

Thanks.

I have been an ABTX long since 12/96 and obviously am very disappointed. My initial reaction was anger directed at management. But as the weekend progresses, I am really starting to wonder whether my anger is justified. There is absolutely no evidence, at this time, that JT misled us. A likely scenario is that a deal was on track until a couple of days ago and then the suitor tried to lowball us knowing we had a "deadline". JT and the board did what was right for all shareholders and said NO THANKS. It is very difficult to believe that ML, DB, JT, the board etc. would all have conspired to perpetrate a"deal is on track" hoax. JT has always been very open and informative when he could. For example, he foretold the biotech agreements which have come through like clockwork. Why would he begin to jack us around now with so much at stake? Until you can present evidence that shows deceit, then I think many are simply looking for anything to direct their intense disappointment. A deal will come ultimately but on more favorable terms for us. I can wait but I cannot say I was not intensely disappointed that the deal was "suspended". Regarding the post that said JT did acquisitions too quickly, I believe he would have been severely criticized if key companies had been snapped up before they were part of ABTX. Personally, I 'd rather know these companies were mine NOW and deal with the debt as the next problem. RR

Oso, a paradox is exactly how I would define it now. I agree with your points - all of them.

I too won't be selling, and I do believe we'll have immediate, or near-immediate relief in the form of some clarifications in the cc with an upside surprise or two. It appears JT now wants us to focus long-term which would have been fine if he had been saying it all along and not reinforcing, over and over, that things were on track.

That he (ABTX) compressed our view without fully indicating opt outs (ie prices that would not be considered), or without having an absolute minimally-acceptable fallback plan...was risky, unnecessarily, to the devout longs. Bad strategy in short.

Like you, I'm more wary than I was last friday. Still a great company w/ huge upsides..just a different investment for me now. I'll have to view it that way.

Again, i think I'll still own it next Friday, but with different investing objectives. I suspect we'll see some decent upside surprise tomorrow, and I can't WAIT for the pre-market open announcement to create some buzz.

Such a paradox.

oso...
your post describes my feelings on this very well, but, i'm not yet convinced JT has " a game plan to carry the day"

i didn't feel that setting a deadline and announcing the sale of one's co. seemed the "smart" thing to do.....but thought, hey this is a smart guy and he MUST have something up his sleeve, so i added to my position during this time also. as i posted earlier, i knew i was doing something either very smart....or very stupid. at this moment, i'm feeling pretty stupid.

would still like to know exactly who and what was supporting the price on friday. if it doesn't become public knowledge soon, i for one, will instigate an investigation(probably be easy to find a group of investors to do this!) to determine if there has been any wrong doing or deliberate misrepresentation. i've got enough $$ at stake to prompt me to do this, and won't be selling into a panic bail-out which is probably at hand. so far, it looks to me that the public was deceived and there have been alot of "big boy" deals which have may have made the past few months lucrative to many "players"

will curb my initial disappointment(just found out less than 1hr ago) and will listen to conference call.
