Your DD is based on incomplete info, lacking day-to-day management decision because you are not the insider. I would assumed
Rob was telling you the truth at the time of the conversation. However, there must be something that trigger the cancellation subsequent to your conversation. He had to make the last miniute decision to cancel the project. It would be ridiculous to assume that Rob decided that I had discussion with some of my shareholders regarding the Toronto clinic: if I did not carry thru with the project,I would have some angry shareholders accusing me of lying; knowing that the clinic would be uneconomical. MDRE had taken a bath in few million dollars loss in the UK venture. There is nothing wrong in backing out of the project if it is uneconomical.Did you ever ask why ?
The bottom line is that as a shareholders, your role is to look at the
big picture; rather than get tangle up with the day-to-day management.
You have to draw the line somewhere and you are getting emotionally involved. The big picture to me is the quarterly and annual financial reports. MDRE has never deviated from its stated growth strategy by expanding more clinic. Vancover clinic is now on board, and there are
several high impact projects on the drawing board , which the management would not want to discuss any details until it is finalized. They have learned a good lesson from shareholder like yourself.
My definition of good investment is in a relative sense. MDRE 's book
value is worth 35 cents by my own estimate; it has growth potential of
doubling or tripling ???? your investment without too much downside risk at to-days price. I would never compare it to Bell Canada(BCE) in the same category. It is a good investment within the context of high risk and high reward- unlike mining stocks.
