Darkgreen, I am not sure that the blindsiding argument is really valid. There are certainly examples where a need and possible technologies were known to the leaders, yet, an upstart executed better. Everyone knew there will be a need for a new fast DRAM architecture, but it seems that RMBS is the one with better execution.

The same is true with GEICO success in the insurance business at the time, CSCO taking the leadership position in networking and many other cases. I know of no case, however where such a success was achieved without financial resources to do it, and that is the Achiles heel of VLNC, even ULBI has a better balance sheet (LITH needs a savior of one kind or another, since they have one foot in the grave).

That is where T&B backing of HET might be the critical part of the race.
