<<You lost the war.>> Egad I guess you are not paying attention. You mean you can't understand the difference between animal rights people and environmentalists? Now listen real carefully It's ok to eat meat it is our birthright just like a lion, see. But because we as humans are so wildly successful we must control our urge to decimate all of this fantastic complex beautiful mosaic that is nature.I do not whine about the poor deer killed by the wolf. This is the way of nature.Predator and prey is the foundation of evolution and natural selection. It is normal healthy and although some times painful to watch it is necessary. Nor do I whine about the hunter killing a deer in an area where the herds have lost their natural predators do to our callousness. We as top predators must take up the slack.
<<Are you saying that it's okay to raise Bessy, the farm cow, only to slaughter her in a couple years, BUT not okay to fish(a wild species}>>?
Pretty close, not ok to show lack of responsibility in the harvest of what wild species we do take. We as humans are in a position no other species have ever seen in the billions of years the planet has been here. We should be honoured to have been given the responsibility to act as caretaker over this planet and it's unbelievable diversity of life. This responsibility should not be taken lightly!!
<<You mean the native Americans didn't love nature or the environment>>.Native Americans didn't have the wherewithall to destroy the environment and they took care not to drive species to extinction. Thus their methods of fishing were irrelevant. It's rather silly to try to pretend that we with our teeming millions could depend on wild species as they did.
