Jwk, I hate those posts also. But I have been through such projects in the past; and from very first hand experience I know how HARD it can be to do maintenance on years old and badly maintained systems. It is a bit like a 'Hydra': for an error that you have solved, 3 new ones (e.g. unforseen side effects) may well pop up. Regards, John

Wildenthal, and the rest of the listserv, have you seen this document? Does it help answer your questions any better? I agree with your curiosity about the item you are alarmed about. It would have been nice had NERC elaborated on it.--Roleigh ---------------------------------------------------------Roleigh, Note that the chart described does appear in the NERC Year 2000 Contingency Planning Guide found at ftp://ftp.nerc.com/pub/sys/all_updl/docs/y2k/contingency.pdf on page 11. This Guide is dated October 23, 1998, but the posting date to this URL is early this month. I have seen a guide like this, but it was the NRC guide, and that this is new to me. It has a great table in it setting forth all the risk factors, their probability and their impact, all summarized on that chart. It is an interesting document.Snyder
