For geosynchronous direct broadcast service, you left out the need for clear line of sight to the satellite, which is a problem where there are trees or other obstructions, or for apartment dwellers.

Low orbit solved some of these problems, but you'll still have to deal with [limited bandwidth] and [cost].

I agree that cable/adsl are not long-term solutions. But then again, I'm sure we'll make a pile of cash on this technology today, tomorrow, and more than likely for ~5 years. Teledesic will start to be interesting to follow in three years. It will be costly, but what the heck, so is/was adsl at first. For that matter, so was cell phone biz, so were 300 baud modems at one time. Cost is always a consideration, but if Teledesic is working on the sats now, I'm sure they have a biz plan which shows a profitable future.
