The one part of Digital me missing is the actual authentication of the individual from the local machine. This may sound like a small piece but in order for this to work on a really large scale it has to be seamless and transportable. I need to be able to login with my smartcard at a terminal and then become the digital me. It takes on the same significance as a credit card only more important. I think the only true method that will give people real security is the BIO + Smartcard approach. Imagine the boon to online people if credit card theft was reduced to virtually nil. Novell has the capability to back end this thing but the hardware has to catch up. Keytronics has a line of keyboards out now that does one or the other but no combos.
On a slightly different note, it is like pulling teeth to get people to actually develop this thing for Novell versus Windows logon or NT. I finally got a company called Air-ID to understand that I would not even look at their product unless it had a true NDS capable login. They just sent me the demo last week and I have one of my guys working with it now. It is amazing how ignorant most of these companies are when it comes to NDS. I find myself explaining NDS to these guys over and over again. Most have no concept of why extending the schema even matters. ARGGHHHHHH!!! They would rather maintain their own DB and then synchronize the two logins. DOH!! Double DOH!! Anyway, does anyone else see how simply storing info will not suffice without dead on authentication? What is everyone else's take?
