<--OT--> Ascetic=practicing strict self-denial as a measure of personal and especially spiritual discipline.

Arthur:

The 'nudity' is not all that prevalent and it is different from the 'nudist colonies' that one see in the West,at least we like to think so as it is not a byproduct of any general social convictions and or behavior pattern by the regular citizenry. The 'nudity' we are referring to here is practiced by ascetics and is accepted by society where they are found. I have seen one or two in the Northern state of U.P and that is about it.There is none in the state where I am from,we see more Commies than any nudist there.<vbg>

There is a religion in India called Jainism which originated I believe around 5 B.C (I am not sure about the date).Jain priests are the only ones I know who rejects clothes along with all the other worldly stuff,I don't think they parade around town to display their nudity,it is merely incidental. If they have to go to town don't expect them to get dressed for it.<g>

PS: When we were kids (5-6 years old) growing up there we used to jump in the local river in the buff every evening to take a bath and swim,I guess that wouldn't count, would it?Besides it was almost dark and no one could hardly see anything.<vbg>
