"Dell and Gateway stand out as the PC makers who want the best CPUs in their machines. This is the public image they would want to keep."

Agreed, and Intel keeps lowering the price anyway. AMD is in a no win situation. What would the benefit be for Dell or Gateway?

Tech2000,
I bookmarked your reply for later use.
I don't think it will hurt Intel very much even if GTW uses a few K6s.
There is a snowballs chance in hello that Dell will use a K6. K7 maybe, but that's way out there on the horizon in a land far, far away right now.

tech200,

CPQ--the "cheap" brands. Dell and Gateway stand out as the PC makers who want the best CPUs in their machines.

When I lived in Austin, I had a Dell notebook engineer living next door to me. He frequently brought Compaq notebooks home with him, because his job was to reverse engineer Compaq designs.

As for Gateway, I've heard that all the top engineering talent is headed for South Dakota, because of the many, many amenities the area is famous for. The South Dakota state motto is: "We are one heck of a lot better than North Dakota."
