don't you do virus scans, tom?

Of course I do. There is a vast difference between a virus and a trojan. Since virii must replicate to fit the definition, they can be picked up by virus scanners (don't ask me how, I just work here).

Trojans are programs that have extra features. A notorious example was the porno viewer that would launch a background applet that, when sufficient time had passed without any keystroke activity, would turn off the modem speaker and dial an international long distance number and run up the phone bill.

There is really no easy way to scan for trojans. This is why I have a send/receive monitor in the first place and never leave my computer on when I am not at it.
