MIPs makes alot of different licensable designs. The highend/expensive MIPS Risc chips that go into things like SGI boxes are made by NEC/Toshiba (as founderies).

I see IDT involved with other 32/64MIP famililies and their business is typified by their recent announcement to make the first 32 bit risc chip (embedded) for under $5. (The WINCHIP in this context is a similar (lowcost) business model brought to the Intel/X86 world.)

The good news: CL currently uses .6µ technology from the vintage Salinas factory and still meets (and could beat!) the fastest Altera speed selections of the FLEX8000 and MAX7000 families. Scale this to .35µ and you have superior speed potential! Now to the bad news: Our migthy Lennie can not leave this well managed gem alone. He wants to bring his IDT management and sales "know-how" (read: "poison") to the party...
