Olen: CPQ will announce a conversion ratio, the percentage of an Alta Vista share for every CPQ share held. For example, if the conversion ratio is .12/CPQ share and a person holds 100 shares, he/she will get 12 shares of Alta Vista transferred into his/her account [or receive a certificate if the CPQ shares are held in certificate form]. Fractional shares are not issued. A check is issued for any fraction and the amount of this check is then considered a long or short term capital gain.

Capital gain questions can wait until the beginning of 2000 when people start thinking about their 1999 taxes.
