Jenna AOL: Ok, it's NOT wise to hold AOL through the earnings report.
But what would be your strategy in case AOL's report is stunning?
So let's assume: the company announces great earnings today after the close. Maybe even a stocksplit?? AOL might then trade higher after hours and pops the next day. Would you jump back in at much higher prices?
A few hours later it might suddenly retreat and profit taking MIGHT set in. I say MIGHT set in. In case of MSFT there was no profit taking at all.
I'd like to know how you would play the stock here, given the "great earnings scenario".
At what point would it be wise to enter? Are you waiting for any
pull back, if it occurs at all?
Thanks very much for elaborating.
Michael B.

Jenna--great post re holding thru earnings---but suppose a tech stock on which a great earnings report is expected drops 5 days in a row just prior to earnings release? Example --on 1/19/99 I purchased SCOC, MTMS, MACR, CLFY ---ALL 4 dropped EVERY day, except MTMS on 1/25----I was down 7%--but yesterday, in 1 day, after earnings report on SCOC and CLFY, ALL 4 turned around, up, and I went from negative 7% to up 1% ---could 4 to 5 days of closing down be a harbinger to buy the day before earnings? If I had done so on SCOC and CLFY I would have realized a 9% gain in one day (using just closing prices).
Curious as to your input.
Tom

Jenna:

DIMD is now 6 3/4. Do you still think it is worth picking up at these prices? Thanks
