Hi Paul! Welcome back. <..I've gone over the T earning report and it seems obvious that they have to spend a ton nof$$$ to upgrade TCI equipment to get into local home phone business and that long distance is a non growth business only way for them to grow the top line seems to be wireless and local telephony can someone explain to me with Teleports lack of depth of penatration into local business Telephony. What does C. Michael have up his sleeve the Street and the analysts seeem to think has a Royal Flush...What am I missing can any you knowledgeable posters help me out?..> I got the chance at SSB to hear a thorough airing of the story (at two presentations and breakouts) as well as hearing a variety of some heavy hitter institutional opinions. (BTW, Armstrong gave today's keynote at IDC ComNet in DC). These guys love how Armstrong is aggressively refocusing T's direction to address the coming data-bandwidth onslaught. And he's doing a lot more than just getting into local through cable (which, btw, they HAVE the cash to move this upgrade along quickly). The model for T (and likely therefore for much of the industry) will be for customers to *flatrate* buy a "basket of services and a bucket of minutes". As I previously reported, they also plan on making use of 10GHz for wireless service. Over the next 3 years, they will be phasing down LD as a percent of revenues. It will still grow, but not NEARLY as fast as data services. Of course, what he has, is the name AT&T a LOT of cash and a LOT of customers worldwide. "Up his sleeve" is the conversion of those predominantly LD customers into AT&T data service (and it'll ALL be "data service") customers. But as it seems you suspect, I share your curiosity as to how interested he is in WCII/TGNT and when we might hear some specifics of this interest. BTW, hope all is going well for you. We've missed your input. Take good care- Steve
