No absolutely NO more spinoffs

You may not be familiar with what has happened in the past at Novell when they have taken this route. Try Novonyx. Schmidt came in, took one look at that baby and said what are you kidding me. He took it right back in!

Digital Me is not a peripheral technology. It is central to Novell's success with NDS. The battle is very simply which directory will become the standard for the internet. You do not take core technologies, misunderstand their significance to your business and spin them off!

Some people at Novell seem to think that they still own the NOS market and that Novell is playing an NOS marketshare game. This is not 1993. Netware 5 is not going to take back the NOS platform from Unix and NT. Netware 5 however is going to be the preferred platform for NDS. NDS is the central product. NDS is where Netware was as a product in 93 with one exception --- back then there was no competition AND Novell owned the NOS market.

Now Novell does not own the NOS market and there will shortly be directory competition. Don't make the mistake of thinking you can win with better engineering. Not that horror show again!

You can only win with a better solution and that means developing a hot directory product that people on the internet need.

Novell has NDS and no one else can match that technical lead. Now Novell needs to show it can use NDS to do something extremely useful with it before it loses that technical lead.

That is why Digital Me should stay within Novell under the nose of senior management.

The first company that puts out a directory product that does something useful on the internet is going to bury every other directory product.

The short of it --- spin-off the people suggesting a spin-off. How about some Novell installation in the Mohave desert.
