BellSouth announces new chip technology
ATLANTA—BellSouth Cellular Corp. announced it is investing in the design and development of a new chip technology that will allow software defined radio technology.
The carrier said it is partnering with California-based QuickSilver Technology Inc. to develop Adaptive Computing Machine technology that will allow a cellular phone to automatically change its configuration to work on different networks—from Time Division Multiple Access technology to Code Division Multiple Access technology to Global System for Mobile communications technology.

‘‘ACM technology will enable carriers and manufacturers to consolidate phone product lines around a single platform, easily adding features and functionality to meet customer needs,'' said Ed Reynolds, president of BellSouth Mobility DCS. ‘‘This consolidation streamlines the manufacturing process, wringing out inefficient costs, and makes everyone in the value chain much less dependent upon a technology choice.''

To all:

Every so often there is an INSANE rumor that QC's IPR (a) disappears, (b) becomes public domain or (c) turns into fairy dust in the event that the company is (a) sold, (b) acquired in a hostile takeover or (c) launched into orbit with the next space shuttle.

Hopefully, for once and for all, please let it be understood that QC's IPR position is NOT, IN ANY WAY, FORM OR FASHION, CHANGED, REDUCED OR OTHERWISE ALTERED if the company is sold or acquired. Period.

Hope this ends this ridiculousness once and for all.

Best regards,

Gregg
