i would take this to be good news as there has been no doubt a lot of "dead wood" amassed during the huge growth years who provide little to PSFT bottom line. I personally know a few 'softies who I consider very weak productivity-wise...

Anytime when a firm announces a major layoff, it's a GOODNEWS for longterm investors. The stock always plummets when the news is announced. However, from a management perspective, it's a great news and it's time to buy since many chicken oversold. It's good for a firm to restructuring its organization. Btw, I loaded up Boeing when it dipped 30 and I plan to hold for a longterm with a good night sleep.

PSFT has no LT debt, lot of cash, strong financial ratio. Look at their homepage to find out who their clients are so you can feel comfortable about holding PSFT. I used to listen to friends here and there. Now I listen to my own analysis based on the industry and market segmentation after spending 2.5 yrs at Bschool focusing in Finance.
