Jack: Speaking of phone quality, I'll add some info passed along to me. My folks live in LA, (Lower Alabama, which is actually northwest Florida; by the humor you know it is not exactly cutting edge as far as infrastructure goes, anyway)I bought my father a Q800 for Xmas. My mother as it turns out, bought him my second choice, a Mot 6550. (Note to self: coordinate gifts better) The area has every flavor of provider and networks except CDMA. Alltel is due to upgrade to CDMA this year. (ya right but that is another story) So after some interesting efforts to get this 'strange' phone up and running on the Alltel network (thanks to the Cellone technical people, another 'another story'!) they are quite impressed with the Q. The Mot has become the portable of last resort. The Q phone works were no other phones do. They both have car phones and other portables and friends with various brands and models. They were in New Orleans recently and made calls from inside buildings were other phones would not even connect. Call quality, style, and usage all are drawing rave reviews, so much so that others have started to search out the 'strange' phone. One lady used the Q once and practically dropped her current phone in the trash and demanded "Get me one." From Bernie's G* conference call, Qualcom is on top of the phone and design has not yet been frozen. Testing continues and improvements are being made. The current baseline phone is an inch shorter and several ounces lighter than the first prototype. Bernie stated he expects another inch off the top by production. Maybe it will get the new 300 chip, which will do wonders for the talk/standbye times. From the above, I expect a quality product. Unfortunately there will not be enough of them for my tastes. On the conference call they said they will have 45K phones at the service providers for system start this fall. I would like tons more but there you go, I dont need to preach to the choir about getting phones out and subscribers on line. Just my two cents worth <EOM> Pay up SM. Jeff Vayda
