Re: Y2K and Hal ad in the SuperBowl

Anyone who already is computer literate probably already knows about the Y2K issue. The rest of the football loving, computer phobic public (pardon the alliteration) will have one less fear to overcome when crossing the threshold to computer ownership.

Besides... anything that puts a shine on the Apple for such a broad and diverse audience has to be good for business. The Y2K issue is a conversation starter. Talk is much cheaper than advertising, and any examination of the Y2K bug will put the Mac in a favorable light.

A friend of mine who handles Y2K remediation has a feeling that this Y2K stuff is way overblown. In particular the power grids (an area he worked in). His feeling is they are a non-issue.

<<the "power grid" going out will make all computers worthless>>

Yes, and how afraid is the government?

We are mobilizing the national guards of at least 48 states to setup backup commo and security patrols starting the week of Christmas Eve and on through New Years. It sucks to have to work during the holiday!
