I have heard people mention breaking over $5/share will allow some institutional investors to begin investing in Ampex, and have heard others say they will begin buying Ampex on margin after it got into the $5's because their broker wouldn't allow them to do so until its price was over $5. Now, with the price over $5, I wonder when options will once again become available?

"Once we cleared $5 the trades got bigger" - That's margin. Dangerous if price slides. They have to sell to cover margin - thus price decline is exaggerated, as sellers drive price down, thus people get scared and start locking in profit to not lose the nice run up, then more decline. Sorry, may not happen, here, but I've been there!
