Thank you. I'm also wondering about the following. Are there any tricks to be played like DSL on copper, to increase bps beyond what we have now? Or is this it with cable being the bottle neck and fiber directly to everyone's house as the only solution beyond what we have now?

He wants to know what you can expect to get out of an ATHM cable hook vs DSL. It is what I stated. There are so many factors compromising every aspect of the situation like ATHM's 128kbps upstream policy that it is impossible to succinctly answer. The answer I gave is adequate for the purpose at hand.
