Well, I can only tell you what I read. I downloaded their analyst presentation held on Jan 27 1999. They stated that headcount in America rose from 3.785 at the end of 97 to 5.984 at the end of 98, an increase of 58%. You might as well be right in your statement about layoffs if your source is credible. Nevertheless it's hard for me to imagine, since SAP's America revenue even increased by 28% (on German Mark basis) in Q4.
