>Sony was a co-developer of firewire and already has an unlimited license(along with four other companies).<

:@

Actually, that being true, how come Sony isn't getting a piece of the action?

Apple conceived firewire. Sony was one of several that helped develop it into IEEE1394. See:

Folks, Given they SAID no stuperbowl ad...

What makes you think they won't FIB again? Huh? What if HAL is just a red herring and the REAL ad will blow us away? What if HAL has been modified, and will blow us away?

What if they figured that if you don't buy a superbowl ad, you can't use it if you really want to, but you can possibly sell your time if you wish to defer? Think of this as Apple buying options, and like many of us, not feeling great about it on expirations day.

Personally, I love the Colors ad.

Secondly, I wonder about the legal ramifications of claiming Y2K compliance. No matter how technically correct, bad code is bad code on any platform.

Anyway, we will see!

And furthermore! Re: >>>Sony was a co-developer of firewire and already has an unlimited license(along with four other companies).<<<

Che ck out:

skipstone.com

There you will find:

---Apple Computer has been OEMing IEEE 1394 link and PHY chip designs since 1994. Licensees include TI, Sony, Fujifilm, Symbios, and Adaptec. Howard Lee, Apple's Development VP, has stated that Apple will support IEEE 1394 via PCI adapters at the end of 1996 and will support IEEE 1394 on motherboards by the end of 1997. ---

While others certainly helped develop firewire - Apple certainly owns it.
