Bob,

I am pretty sure you can short only in lots of 100 shares. Perhaps for SPDRs the rule is different though, and perhaps different firms have different rules..

I don't know anything about what Brian said. But several things could go wrong for you.

The most likely is that your feed is, or at least was, slow. Ask Datek for T&S if their reply is insufficient. Do it today or you will have a difficult time getting a satisfactory resolution.

Even if you do not care about the outcome, you should do it to see how they handle it. You don't want to be in this position again if they stonewall you this time.
