Get rid of the phone company...bottom line...

go for cable...

install a peer to peer network in your home...(hub $39, cabling $25, ethernet card $49 a piece) Set up a server, get winproxy or wingate software. $149 for a 6 license package
(I prefer wingate www.dearfield.com) (full service techie here...lol)

get one subscription to cable modem. $39/month (here anyway)
don't buy the modem from the cable company...LEASE IT, cause then you get updates...and they get to fix any problems.

the dearfield site...will guide you on how to set up your computers...

......smile......long on AOL and ATHM (and ATHM rocks!!) long term AOL subscriber.....(met my honey there...!!)
