* * * AOL 99: KING OR PAUPER? POLL FINAL TALLY for Jan. 31 * * *

Need a psychic? Wondering about the weekend weather report? Prophets in short supply where you live?

Fear not, brave AOL longs and shorts, for you need to know only these four names: J.D. Main, Spreck, JC Reddy and Stormin Norman.

The four are the winners of the unofficial AOL 99: King or Pauper? Poll. The poll, comprised of 70 voters from this thread, took predictions for AOL's stock price by Jan. 31, 1999 and Jan. 1, 2000.

While the latter champion could be anyone from the most bullish to the most bearish, current bragging rights belong to the foursome.

All four guessed a closing price of 175 for AOL by month's end. AOL finished Friday's action at 174 3/4.

Scott Mantz was next in line at 173.

For the record, the poll's average guess was 179. The year-end collective prediction is 338.

The group of great guessers was buoyed by a strong earnings report released by AOL Wednesday. AOL, languishing in the 140-160 range since two recent run-ups, was as high as 177 before settling down.

Among the psychic foursome, Main is the most bullish longer term with a prognostication of 390 for the start of 2000. Stormin Norman is less optimistic, calling for a finish of 140.

The bridesmaid, so to speak, Mantz, is highly bullish with a guess of 520.

The most bullish AOLer? Bald Man from Mars, with a dreamy guess of 775 for year's end. That is not a typo.

The most bearish? Art Stone, with a gloomy guess of 37.

A new poll, collecting guesses on AOL for April 31, is open to all interested voters. Changes to individual year-end predictions are also welcome.

Please sent your AOL predictions and comments to BomboochaBoy.
