Rudedog,
You know as well as anyone else that past performance is no guarantee of future performance, but I still value the opinion of a winner.
Furthermore, don't kid yourself, I know of rich Dellheads that have also made huge scores on internet stocks.
In my mind, there is a world of difference between someone who's made a fortune over the years with Dell as opposed to someone who's made a fortune of late on internets. The former has demonstrated incredible discipline, an acute understanding of Dell vs the rest of the sector, and a healthy suspicion of "conventional wisdom". The latter, I humbly submit, is a momentum player riding a red hot sector who can't possibly possess the same depth of knowledge on a company no one truly understands.
Thousands of investors may have successfully traded Dell on and off, but I maintain it is a rare individual that has ridden Dell for most of its run.
The bottom line is that Dell has outperformed Cpq over the last 3 years by a wide margin, thus my "Compaq is good, Dell is better". Just don't assume that the internet nouveau riche belong in the same league as they have at least another 2 1/2 years before all the votes are tallied.
Does this answer your question?

Rudedog..As long as you are "happily holding" those shares, the balloon floats. Some long time CPQ balloon holders are no longer "happily holding". I agree, it has nothing to do with what is going to happen going forward. It has more to do with what happened in the past that keeps the balloon in the air because who wants to pay the price of piercing the balloon? You might say the metrics of that price are too high for you personally. There are some long term holders like you who have come to the conclusion that that is no longer the case. Keeping this balloon floating requires confidence from those long timers like you that management can keep performing. The evidence to support that confidence is sadly lacking and diminishing daily. Some of the sophomoric antics management pulled this week only support that (my) impression.
You probably know I have called for replacement of this management team for almost a year now. I would like to ask you for your honest opinion regarding CPQ management. I respect you knowledge greatly but try to not let the past influence what you say about how these guys are running your company and mine now. Respectful thanks.
Steve

I suspect JK has made more money on Dell in the last 3 years than all the CPQ participants on this thread in the last week combined.

rudedog, these guys "suspect" a lot, but don't know or understand much. Like jim, this guy doesn't have any point at all.
