Shalom:

I am afraid you are mistaken. It was perfectly legal and moral under the laws of the judges and god for a man to have wives (plural) and concubines (quasi-wives) and to have sex with female slaves if so desired.

Adultery, which is what you are alluding to, was only defined as having sexual relations with another man's wife, concubine or slave (property). The god of the Hebrews did not promote or insist on monogamous relationships.

As for "justice and mercy" one of the reasons (according to Kings) that Saul fell out of favor with god is that Saul was too merciful. He had been instructed to totally destroy an enemy city (warfare similar in style to the notorious Pol Pot) and kill all the men, women, slaves, children, animals... even dogs. Saul did not kill everything. He left some children alive and some animals. Because of this god became angry (a human emotion which a Supreme Being should not have!), and cursed Saul.

Stemming from this was god's "new" plan to replace Saul with the madman, David.

Whatta guy! LOL

I have reviewed Exodus and have failed to find a prohibition against a man having sex with his slave or that says that a man is only to have sex with his wife. Would you show me?

This will make your job easier by making cut and paste available.
