More Plextor 8X

Misc raw posts from the news groups.

Some comment the Plextor 8X will not overburn. ( I think that means will not make CDs longer than 74 min)

Need 8X certified media

Need 8X compatible drives for 8X CD to CD burn

Some mistakes (skips) at 8X audio burns

I use TDK blanks on my Plextor 8/20. They are certified for 8x
and cost about $1.50 each.

I have recently found some skips on about 1-2% of the audio tracks that
I've recorded at 8x on my Plextor. I've dropped back down to 4x and have
not encountered any problems yet. I'm using Mitsui silvers and WinOnCD
3.5

I just successsfully burned a 70 minute CD (using DiscDupe) at 8x, on the
fly, while I logged on to my ISP, downloaded my email, read this newsgroup
and open up and edited a large Excel spreadsheet.

Life is good!

I can get Taiyo Yudens for about $1.30 USD each and these discs are
certified at 8X (they are even recommended by Plextor for 8X writing).

yup
it works so well
you have to have a really good reader to do a cd 2 cd at 8x
im getting the 32plex plextor
i had the 40 and it sucked
i tried to rip a audio cd..it only ripped at 6x when my burrner (plextor 8/20)
ripped the cd at 20x
also it has problems reading media with errors burned into the disk. like psx
games. it has to slow down to 2x copying. there is a software fix for it. but
thats not exceptable
i hope the 32x will be better
any comments?

ThePLEX 8X has problems overburning, accordnig to Nero Tech Suppt... as of
01/26/1999

Unless Plextor has come out with a newer Firware, then please correct me!

See below... This should be enough to make you opt for the new 6X Yamaha's
coming out!

aaargh I put the 8x PlexWriter at number 1 in the Top 5™ and now we got this
mail from Joost concerning overburning with the Plex: "I could always "backup"
flawlessly with my Teac R55s but I can't always backup perfectly on the Plextor
8/20. Nero (or Prassi) do write the cd's and finalize them but the writers hangs
right afterwards. The machine needing a reboot before I can use the writer
again. The reaction from Plextor was that they do NOT officially support
overburning at the moment and they can not tell if they are going to update the
firmware to support it fully...

***********************

Also contacted Ahead (NERO) about this issue; this is their response to this
question: 'I just switched from a Teac R55s (4x12) to a Plextor 8/20 (8x20). I
can't seem to overburn anymore. CDs I could effortlessly copy with the Teac I
can't copy with the Plextor. Any tips?.' The reaction from Ahead: " Yep. The
CDR55s is capable of writing more CD formats (overburning and very big CD-Rs)
and therefore seems to have better firmware/hardware than the Plex 8x. This
recorder sometimes locks up if the laser reaches the physical end of the CD-R
while writing the leadout. This is a drive problem. Plextor knows about this,
but doesn't seem to be willing to change this behavior. Sorry."
