James, proprietary is crap, remember the Vax and PDP-11's from Digital? It was their demise to stay proprietary as was all the other bigwigs from 1980,Data General,Wang,Commodore,etc.. Look at Dell,CPQ, are they proprietary? DIMD has a huge head start, and the big boys will not enter the market until the RIAA lawsuit is cleared up. There is only one company that may risk it,and that is MSFT. Well if MSFT enters the fray, say asta la pasta to the RIAA. It will then stand for Retarded Ignorant Aimless Assholes, which they are.
And does MSFT produce great hardware? Nope, they will produce better software to run DIMD's hardware on. And how about Sony? Lets see, the last great invention was the Betamax, geez,I still have a few of those as coasters for my Martini's. Now, they are promoting mini-disk downloadable files, I wonder if they will make good Frisbee's for Shitzu's?

Yes, of course, once Bell invented the phone, and others copied it, that was then end of the line for Bell phone sales.
