I don't see anything "mere" about animals. They are really fascinating and wonderful and I am proud to be one of 'em. I wish I had a multi-tasking brain like a dolphin, or soft fur like a seal, I would like to fly like an eagle (apologies to Steve Miller), and sometimes it would be great to be a Lion- cause they get to sleep a lot and I don't get enough sleep. I understand where you are coming from, though. And I agree. Slavish true believers of anything are boring and annoying and sometimes dangerous.
