Just a couple of comments on your post, Saju:

1. I'm sorry your friend had a problem with their Dell laptop. Sometimes the hard drive breaks when the machine has been abused (like dropped). That's the only reason I can think of that dell wouldn't honor their warranty.

2. For a college grad, your spelling is atrocious. "BOT" should be spelled "bought". Try to remember that people will judge your ideas by the way you communicate them. Have you been spell checking your job applications?

3. Your use of profanity isn't appreciated. If you continue to be so crass, you may lose your SI posting privileges.

I have children your age, and can appreciate that your emotions may be running high, but please try to post socially acceptable comments to this thread as a measure of respect to your threadmates.

Happy investing,
Frank

Saju;

Th hard drive in my Dell desktop crashed this past week. I fully expected that I'd have to replace the drive myself since I purchased this pc in July 1997. I called Dell anyway to check and was told that my pc was still under warranty( 2 years ) for parts and service( cool ). A Dell contract tech called a day later to schedule a time he could come by and install the new drive. SInce he couldn't make it here until this coming Monday, I installed a spare drive myself. This took a couple hours to do, including formatting and software installation. So, either way, this is not that complex of a situation. I think your friend might want to give Dell another call and inquire about having one of their service contractors install the drive for him/her. Something does not seem right with the information your friend received.

Regards;
JT

just bought a dell refurbished and under three year warranty. first year in house and next two years I have to box and send back for repair. However, for $99 bucks I get year two and three in home service. Hope I never need it but in home service for three years by the end of the three years I will be ready for upgrade and donation of this one to the kids again... fyi John

saju chacko,

If you communicated with DELL the way you communicated this message, I can understand why you aren't getting any service. I am typing this on a DELL laptop watching the Super Bowl. I knocked my laptop off the table and it still works just fine.

DELL cheap? Hardly. There is no way DELL expects you to be able to repair your own laptop. Stop the foul language and improve your communication skills and maybe you will get better service.
