OT- the nines

John, that was a quick and informative reply. Thanks.

Today we tend to characterize superior reliability in comms platforms as well, by denoting that a service is capable of delivering five nines.

Such as XYZ delivers 99.99999% up-time, for example.

Or, at least that is an elusive goal in the extreme... used to make a point that a platform is extremely dependable.

Regards, Frank Coluccio

Off topic: Dressed to nines

Never too late to learn something new. I always thought the expression came from Scotland where the kilts, worn formally, were made using nine yards of tartan. This can explain the "whole nine yards" expression too. Thank you for the correction. PW.
