Gateway to use AMD chips on new PC- report
NEW YORK, Feb 1 (Reuters) - PC maker Gateway Inc. will use Advanced Micro Devices Inc. computer chips, instead of those of Intel Corp. , on a new line of machines it plans to launch in March, PC Week reported.
The North Sioux City, S.D. company, a long-time Intel loyalist, will use Advanced Micro Devices' K6-3 chip on the new line, sources told the weekly computer trade publication.

Gateway plans to offer the new, AMD-equipped computer at a cheaper price than it could if it used Intel chips, PC Week said.

PC makers have been able to price computers based on AMD's K6-2 chip at lower levels than those based on Intel Celeron chips, according to research by PC Data Inc., a Reston, Va. company that tracks North American PC retail and corporate sales.

Despite its success in the retail PC space, AMD has not been able to get its chips into computers aimed at the business market. Hewlett-Packard Co. , International Business Machines Corp. Compaq Computer Corp. and NEC Corp. do not use AMD in any of their commercial brands.

RE:"Does Jim spend HOURS each day over on the Intel thread
posting about how poor a company it is?"....

So, are you saying that Engel is a few cards short of a full deck?
