The fact that a majority of Americans want the impeachment trial to end does not validate such views.

Good point, but neither does it invalidate such views. I've never claimed that the only reason Congress should drop the impeachment/trial is popular opinion. That would be a weak excuse, as you point out.

A better reason to drop the trial would be that the nation has many problems that need attention from Congress, which Congress can't give while they are tied up impeaching/trying Clinton, which I might add is a futile exercise because they need 12 Democratic Senators to vote with them, and that's not going to happen. The logically correct thing to do would be to censure Clinton and move on.

But, noooooooo, the Republicans aren't going to do that. They'd rather point at Clinton's sins and try to make political hay. NEWS FLASH: The people are already tired of the GOP hypocrisy. (Specifically, Henry Hyde is the Head Hypocrite. He has some nerve sitting in judgement of Clinton when he himself has committed adultery.)

Moreover, if you believe Starr gets his jollies out of this whole mess you obviously haven't examined his impressive record of accomplishment.

Are you referring to his accomplishments as Special Prosecutor or his previous accomplishments in private practice? Either way, his accomplishments may be impressive to another lawyer, but not to me.
