Hmmm, Will that help CPQ or ORCL more? I think that would help ORCL more. It seems like CPQ would already work with ORCL or any software provider the client wanted on their system. Just makes sense to me. Is there anything unique about the deal?

Good point.

Note that DEC/Compaq have released the Alpha 21264 at 500 MHz - SLOWER THAN THE 600 MHz of its predecessor - the 21164. A bad sign !

All is not well with current & future Alpha chips - and Compaq knows that better than anyone else.
