Good products, no doubt.

From 1.8 million (IPO) to 60 million in sales per qtr. Very
profitable.

The mysteries of the stock market. Great products, great earnings,
great growth... Price laggs.. Doens't make sense...

Perception is not always reality in the stock market.

Where "Smart money" flows...

Semiconductor:
Intel (Need I say what they do ?)
Motorola (Jack-of-all-trades)
Micron (memory, amazing that it is up..)
Altera (programmable logic chip)
Xilinx (programmable logic chips)
Linear tech. (analog chips)
..etc..

*NOT*
Semiconductor - speculative:
AMD, CRUS, LSI, VLSI, TDFX, TDDDF, etc... and the list goes on.

Networking / Telcom
Cisco
Lucent
Tellabs
Northern Telecom
..etc..

*NOT*
Networking / Telecom - speculative
Pairgain
Fore systems
Westell
..etc..

Computer Hardware
DELL
DELL
DELL
oh.. CPQ and GTW..

Internet stocks - speculative x 1000
pick any... :-D
(unsolved mystery)
YHOO soars..AMZN soars... Anyone_Anyplace_Dot_Com soars...

Banks
Chase, Citigroup, etc. etc. get battered, Asian Flu...
...Back up there.. What happened ?

Dow Stocks ?
...get battered, Asian Flu...
...Back up there.. What happened ?

*********************************************************************
What does all this madness mean ? There are alot of
other good stocks that are not talked about. Names
like Intel, Cisco, Dell, Compaq, America Online, Lucent, Microsoft, Oracle, etc.... are always coming up in conversation. Who ever heard of CA and CSC, the other BILLION dollar companies not making news ?

When buying stocks, the "brand-name" seems to come first. Bizzare as it may seem. Good stocks seem to grow slow like trees and speculative stocks grow quick, but someone is there with an axe in hand wearing the dreaded hood.

I found peace when buying a stock and then getting rid of it
as soon as it shows profit. If there is no profit to be
had, I dump it. Next....

Good Luck...

Pirate

Greg,

Your concerns are mine. Not willing to sell until 3dfx-files though.

Pat

Greg, I agree almost completely with your sentiment. The _only_ reason I bought TDFX was because of Rampage. I believe it will provide mind blowing graphics - especially with a newer version of Glide meant to run on such powerful hardware. But Voodoo3 was a mistake IMHO, because the hardcore gamers aren't as excited about this card the way they would be about a _real_ next gen product - and neither is the press. If they had called it Banshee2, it probably would've been hailed as a powerful update to an already successful chip, but instead all we hear are what features it doesn't have. Everybody knows about Intel's roadmap (maybe not in tremendous detail, but enough to comprehend the developments in the cpu arena we will see in the next few years). It doesn't hurt the company for us to know what's going on, but imagine if they kept their roadmap a secret. They could make a lot of claims and not have to back anything up, since we would have no documentation to compare it with. 3dfx must live up to the hype they have been hinting at or they (gulp, we) are going to look like the biggest fools since the emperor's new clothes.
