Geac is a great company but it faces some challenges this year that are related to Y2K. There was an article about this in today's Globe & Mail (re-printed from the WSJ). It discussed the fact that a number of companies plan to cut their spending on software and systems upgrade this year, and defer those expenditures till the year 2000.

Some analysts feel that the second half could be difficult for many companies. But then again, this is open to debate. I'm wondering if the whole software sector will underperform this year and whether the belief that there will be serious spending curtailments isn't the reason for this.
