That sounds quite strange, are you sure it's the hardware that causes problems with QP2? I mean why would it cause problems?

QP doesn't care what kind of disk subsystem you're on.

In general, to move to a new environment, install the program and date files from the qp cd on the new environment, then transfer the data files from the old to new environment.

This way all of the registry entries are correct.

You did something wrong. I have done this procedure many times with no problems at all. I have moved the setup to totally disimilar computers with no trouble at all.
