Yet another use of Digital Me

There is a battle going on in the courts about web sites that have content not suitable for children. A Federal Court just ruled yesterday dumping the latest piece of Federal legislation that would have restricted access to porno sites by requiring they some how prove the people accessing their sites were adults.

Once again A Digital Me solution to this problem could exist without the government getting involved.

Since the objections to these sites are primarily centered around children being exposed to them, a digital identity vault would pretty much limit all access to them to adults.

Any child that used dad's public ID for the site (assuming that no smartcard were implemented, with a smartcard even that possibility would severely be limited since dad would have that card in his pocket) would be faced with the web site querying the digital vault as to was this person over 18.

The child would have to know the identity vault password for dad as well as whatever other verification info the vault asked for. Since children cannot get credit cards and do not have employment histories they would not be able to get their own adult digital identities from the vault. The verification process for an "is this person an adult" query could be made so complex as to serious defeat even a child's memory.

The porno site wouldn't get any of the personal information stored in the vault, just a yes or no as to adult status. No way to lure in the innocent.

I think the combination of Border + a suitable modification of Lu's browser and Digital Me could become standard fare!

Somehow I feel that some of the most dramatic applications could come from the combination of *Inferno* with NDS.

BTW..as per your suggestion I obviously bought a lot of shares today, the effects are clear <ggg>
