You think Gephardt reads '00 as a Republican year? The polls seem to point to Jr. as the likely winner, but, once the race becomes clear, I think that we can chuck today's numbers.

Gephardt may also be responding to the shift to earlier primary dates in many states. I agree with those who expect this shift to coalesce support (i.e., money) around the usual suspects. A dark horse -- even one as high profile as Gephardt -- can no longer campaign for a victory in Iowa or N. Hampshire and hope to build from there; too many electoral votes come too early.

Please note, Dave, I'm neither a Gore supporter nor a particular fan of BC's politics. I'm just guessing that Gore will run on Clinton's rep, such as it is. Junior may clean his clock -- or Madam Dole or .... -- but I expect much of the politicking to focus on the efficacy of Clinton's policies, and the wisdom of continuing them.
