Michael, I make my comment from generalization and also some
specific knowledge of the Qcom flavor of business, which employs an army of "temps" and strings them along in hopes of attaining permanent employment, only to do another round of layoffs in time to avoid facing the prospect of adding more real employees.
The fact that you are operating a successful beautique or whatever, doesn't change the face of the economy for those with mortgages to maintain and families to support. A company such as Qualcomm either has a growing business or it doesn't, if it does it should have a steadily growing and stable workforce. Instead it lays off in order to create "one-time write offs" and shift manufacturing across the border.
