I disagree. I think they should report when these online houses are down. You are correct though, in that they should report when *each* one is down, not just selectively pick and choose based on how much other news is on the table that day.

I will say this though: I am not an E-Trade customer, but if I were, I'd have been FURIOUS at that clown from Dow Jones News who was sitting there, on hold, tying up one of E-Trade's customer lines. Cripes, when the online system is down, the phone lines are nearly impossible to get through to place orders...the last thing you want is some bozo reporter tying up a line that a customer could be using to place an order.
