PM manual states the max size for a FAT16 partition is 2 gig. That must be why when I converted to Fat16 the 2 gig size was used, so forget my question about doubling from the previous post.

I resized w98 down to 502mb. The used amount came to 490mb since I have 2 clones of NT in the w98>DI directory compressed 40% I think. My NT backup install needs 117mb free so I'll have to create the DI archive partition before doing the NT install so there will be enough room for it.

So the decision of the moment is how big to make a partition for DI Images. I'll look back in your posts to see if you mentioned that. This partition will have to be FAT to store images of NT right?

Edit I'm responding to myself today... where is everybody? <g>

Clarence, there's a subtle zone between (about) 1020 mb
and 1024 mb in which most of this software (including
NT Disk Manager) gets confused. I can only guess, but my
guess is that it comes from figuring partition sizes without
allowing for overhead.

I tried FAT partitions of 1023 mb in NT disk manager and
found it generated 32k clusters (bad). Reduced it to
1020mb and generated 16k clusters (good). You may be
seing a variation of this problem, for all I know.

You DO want to have one or the other of the following
situations (and PM should tell you which you have):

(1) An approximately 1gig partition with 16k clusters

(2) An approximately 2 gig partition with 32k clusters

You do NOT want a 1 gig partition with 32k clusters. You
will
waste a lot of space.
