The OEM strength of STB and the supposably poor performance of Creative in servicing Gateway is what gives me hope that 3Dfx will do very well. ATi and STB seem to be the two powerhouses in OEM sales. 3Dfx has good chips and name recognition. Together, I think they are a winning combination. ATi has done extremely well without having the "best" technology, there's no reason why 3Dfx can't do the same. How many OEM contracts does Creative and Diamond have, anyways? (OK, Creative does sell tons of soundcards).

Re: TNT OEM suppliers

Michael Madden wondered:
I'm more worried about the future of NVIDIA than of TDFX. Whose going to champion their chip in the OEM market now that STBI is gone?

Has 3Dfx stated for certain that they will be dropping STB's TNT business? I would understand it if NVIDIA didn't supply STB with newer products. But it seems both parties benefit from STB continuing to sell their current lines while the products are still alive. TNT benefits from not having to find someone to pick up the OEM business who can provide the excellent service STB apparently did. STB/3Dfx benefit from not pissing off their OEM contacts while they attempt to transition them to the 3Dfx cards. 3Dfx benefits from not having a lot of the newly acquired STB employees get pissed when they see their OEM wins pissed away.
