CompuServe was purchased by WorldCom and the networking division of CompuServe (CompuServe Network Services) was kept and is now the Advanced Network division of WorldCom's data division - the consumer service was given to AOL in exchange for their networking division ANS. (which has also been merged into Advanced Networks)..

That being said, WorldCom provides AOL with the majority of their network through UUNET and the network built by AOL - through ANS.. CompuServe online service is also using networks owned by WorldCom..
