Predatory pricing?

Just glad I own stock in the predator and not its prey.

"Between the predatory pricing of the Celeron ..."

I thought, by definition, the AMD price of the corresponding AMD product was 25% less than Intel's price. Has something changed ?

Who has the predatory pricing ? Must be something I don't understand.

Best Trading,
X

Jim, re: Predatory pricing? - Not likely

My belief is that Intel has chosen to peg the Celeron pricing at 172% of its cost (58% margin), and let the price fall in concert with cost reductions. Hardly predatory, just competitive. Sorry if AMD can't keep up.

By the way, I show the last AMD trade at 3:14 est. Was trading on AMD suspended?

Appears the problem with all this is that it's dragging down Intel.

The whole sector tanked today. I doubt AMD troubles were in play here.

Jeff

re: "predatory pricing of the Celeron"

It's not predatory if you make money on it. It is clear that Intel has room to move on pricing, but they have an obligation to shareholders to make money. They have an obligation to make money long term, so they invest in the future (design, factories, process technology, brand equity, and growth of the computing/communications market .

The bottom line is pricing may move down a little quicker with competition, but Intel has demonstrated aggressive price moves, and/or performance increases even when AMD and others are not on their heels. The bottom line is AMD continues to attack despite their obvious incompetence. Intel will continue to maximize profits and future growth. The 4th quarter was a bit of an anomaly since demand outstripped supply... now that things are in balance, I expect Intel to take back share and increase margin dollars if not margin %. Intel is not loosing the highend PII, the PII Xeon, or the soon to be in the channel PIII... they are gaining in the low end segment, and I'm sure they are making $'s on every part they sell.

This should be a bullish indicator... looks like a buy opportunity to me.

The predatory pricing of the Celeron is taking its toll. DOJ will like that one.

Predatory pricing involves pricing a product below cost. Intel makes money on every one they sell, you whiner.

There you go - whining again.

Intel is making money on their Celerons.

When they transition to 0.18 microns, they will lower the costs further - AND the PRICE !

AMD is losing money on their K6-2's.

Intel is a better company - much better.

Believe it.

Why didn't you SHORT AMD yesterday when I gave the signal !?
